ACTIVITY #5 | My Journey In Science 4

WHAT TO DO:

1. Create a graphic organizer that will show how air (oxygen) travels through the different organs of the respiratory system.

2. Make a sketch of the different organs of respiration and state the function of each part in your own words.

Organs of Respiration and its Functions

Nasal Cavity and Paranasal Sinuses -  to filters, warm and humidify the air we breath. These give you a feeling of smell.

Nostrils - these uses to smell things, breathe, and (sometimes) sneeze. To warm air on inward breath and remove dampness on exhalation.

Larynx - is responsible for production of sound. It moves when we swallow. When we speak, air is forced into this small gap by the lungs. This prompts vocal cords to vibrate which produces sound.

Trachea - allows air to pass from the pharynx to the lungs.

Bronchi - shuttle air to and from the lungs.

Lungs - reliable for adding oxygen and removing carbon dioxide from the blood.

Oral Cavity - serves the secondary passage for air to enter and exit the respiratory tract during inhalation and exhalation.

Pharynx - conveys air from your mouth and nose to the trachea.

Alveoli - allow gas exchange

Diaphragm - this creates a vacuum effect that pulls air into the lungs. When you exhale, the diaphragm relaxes and the air is pushed out of lungs.

3. Create a Poster on the Effect of Smoking in Cardiovascular and Respiratory System.

This poster shows how smoking affects our lungs and heart.
