Covalent Bond and Metallic Bond | My Journey In Science 4

Image
Today, we continued discussing about Covalent Bond and also we discussed some of the topics from Metallic Bond.  But first, let me share you how I understand the Ionic and Covalent Bond easily with these examples.  Let’s look at the following two scenarios   A   and   B . There are two kids, Emily and Sarah. They both are very good friends. Scenario A        IONIC BOND - TRANSFER     Scenario B                                                                                     COVALENT BOND - SHARE   Now let’s apply the above analogy to chemical bonding. Assume that Emily and Sarah represent two atoms, and the blanket symbolizes their valence electrons. In  scenario A , atom Emily is willing to donate her...

Today we continue discussing Ionic Bond, Lewis Electron Dot Structure or LEDS, Ionic Charges, Formation Of Ionic Compounds, Writing Chemical Formula, Naming Binary and Ternary Compounds, Important Ions and ionic Compounds, and Formation of Covalent Compounds. LEWIS ELECTRON DOT STRUCTURE (LEDS)

Electron Configuration and Noble Gases | My Journey In Science 4

Image
Today, we just recapped about the lesson we tackled last meeting which is about the Atomic Bond, Octet Rule, and the Valence Electrons. Our teacher assigned us to identify the electron configuration of the other elements using the noble gases and the Pauli's Exclusion Principle.                       Above is one of the example our teacher assigned us to do. We first used the Noble Gas notation then after that we used the Electron Configuration which is the longest one to write.  We use noble gases to add shortcut on the Electron Configuration. W e will just follow the next aufbau principle with the last aufbau principle with the noble gas provided. For the Electron Configuration, we are just going to follow the aufbau principle until it reaches the exact amount of the atomic number of the element we need.

Valence Electrons | My Journey In Science 4

Today we discussed about the Atomic Bond including the octet rule and the valence electrons. We also figured out how to find the electron configuration. We just tackled a few lessons today so this blog is going to be short only. Octet Rule

Quantum Theory and the Atom | My Journey In Science 4

Image
We discussed about the Quantum Theory and The Atom. Before we started our teacher asked us to give him our answers on our previous activity and after that we discussed about Lesson 7 which is the Quantum Theory and The Atom.  Bohr's Model of the Atom

THE PHYSICISTS| My Journey In Science 4

Research for the following personality: 1.1 Ernest Rutherford Ernest Rutherford is the father of nuclear chemistry and nuclear physics. He discovered and named the atomic nucleus, the proton, the alpha particle, and the beta particle. He discovered the concept of nuclear half-lives and achieved the first deliberate transformation of one element into another, fulfilling one of the ancient passions of the alchemists. 1.2 Niels Bohr Niels Bohr completely transformed our view of the atom and of the world. Realizing that classical physics fails catastrophically when things are atom-sized or smaller, he remodeled the atom so electrons occupied ‘allowed’ orbits around the nucleus while all other orbits were forbidden. In doing so he founded quantum mechanics. Later, as a leading architect of the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics, he helped to reshape our understanding of how nature operates at the atomic scale. 1.3 Max Planck Max Planck changed physics and our understanding...
